The rooms are medium in size and are kept in good condition. The bathrooms are also in good condition. The style is perhaps what one would expect of a large, state-owned Soviet Bloc hotel, with plain colours and simple decor. The restaurant can be found on the 1st floor; it is light and airy, offering a range of local and International cuisine. This huge and impressive granite building, coloured light brown is iconic in Riga's history and a landmark hotel property in the old town. The lobby is large and is a split-level area. It has a grand feel, as the ceilings are high and its quite spectacular. The reception desk is to the right of the hotels entrance.. This is a hotel with a perfect location in the heart of Riga. Although it is not the most luxurious hotel, the location itself is worth staying here.

    The location is top, very close to the old town. Most of the interior is still from Soviet times, quite run-down. Long lines at the coffee machines at breakfast. Breakfast is quite poor. But the top location compensates for many things.

    I had a lot of different problems:

    1) WIFI Internetr: the first day, after saying that I needed WIFI, I placed lodged in the 5th floor. There\'s not WIFI in that floor, so the following day I was moved to the 6th floor, but with a cable connection. I paid 7 lats(10 euros) a day for 24 hour connection. I failed 2 days out of 5.

    Cleanliness: My room got the towels changed everyday, but the toilette was not cleaned and the garbage was not collected in one occasion.

    The television set was really old: the day I was moved, I discovered that there was not any TV channel set. It was fixed as I required for the following day, but the aerial was in not a good condition and the quality of the image was extremely deficient.

    There was not air conditioning system. DO NOT book this hotel in summer, you may suffocate inside.

    I saw in the web, they had sauna in the facilities: it is free for guest from 8 to 10 in the morning!!! Later till the evening, it cost 10 lat (10 euros).

    Breakfast: good choice and presentation. DIsco music while eating first time in the morning.

    Fir the price I paid, which was ridiculous, I got that. There are better alternatives.
