I had the misfortune to stay at The Norton Grange for a couple of days with my wife and grown up children. The staff we met in reception and bar were completely, though cheerfully, incompetent.
Examples:
We arrived at 10 pm but one of the rooms wasnt ready. It hadnt been cleaned, and for 2 days remained half cleaned. Hotel likewise. The corridor had 3 or 4 trays containing half eaten meals, at 10.30 in the evening. Only one towel. No bath gel or shampoo on second day, despite reception dealing with it. No TV hand control, though we did get one on request.
No newspapers. Very slow, very poor bar service. Tables in bar decidedly yucky. Half-cleaned on request. Bar snacks unbelievably awful. Think, Morrisons ready meal microwaved.
School meal type breakfasts were passable, but way short of being good, though staff here were nice. Fortunately, we took the advice of numerous Rochdalian friends and ate our evening meal elsewhere, at an excellent restaurant a couple of hundred metres away. The Norton Grange eating experience has a terrible reputation amongst the locals. Average quality and way overpriced.
Please note, this is the first time in my life that Ive filled in one of these forms. I felt duty bound to post a warning. Also, any prospective businessmen among readers might consider opening up in Rochdale as, apparently, most hotels in the area also have considerable shortcomings.
